Crown Prince Philippe and Princess Matilda of Belgium visited Stanford and the Hoover Institution
The visit was an homage to the Hoover Institution, which has had close ties to Beligium since World War I when the former president launched an aid program. It also was a trip down memory lane for the prince, who earned a master's degree in political science from Stanford in 1985. The royals toured the campus, visted Hoover Tower and Carillon, and met 30 Belgian students at the Bechtel International Center.

The Henderson Center, Hartshorn Hall, and The Belgian Building.

The Belgian Friendship Building: A gift from the Government of Belgium in 1941 to Virginia Union University at the close of the 1939 New York World’s Fair. It houses a gymnasium (named Barco-Stevens Hall in memory of two veteran teachers: Dr. John W. Barco and Professor Wesley A. Stevens), Vann Memorial Tower (named after Robert L. Vann, an alumnus and founder of the Pittsburgh Courier), and the William J. Clarke Hall (named after Dr. William J. Clarke, 3rd president of the university).
